Automotive Empire

Detroit has been synonymous with the manufacturing of automobiles longer than most of us have been alive. If you know nothing about this city, you know cars come from Detroit. Men like Randsom E. Olds and Henry Ford helped streamline the automobile manufacturing process, which evolved Detroit from a modest industrial city of about 200,000 into a metropolis of nearly 2 million people. The new affordable motorcar changed the world’s landscape and Detroit exploded to an unsustainable peak. With rising labor costs and fierce competition from overseas, the industry faced new uncharted challenges, and slowly began to withdraw from the communities that relied on it the most. On this tour, we will pass by the sites of the once-great American automotive empire, and learn about some of the pioneers that led the auto boom which cemented Detroit as “The Motor City.” This tour is packed with many locations and compelling stories.
